DOGS DELIVER FOR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Camden Bulldogs Baseball team delivered a knockout blow to York to win the District C Championship by a score of 7-4 on Saturday at Legion Field in Camden.
Thomas Bishop once again led the Bulldogs by going 3-3 with a single, double, and triple while driving in 2 runs and scoring 2 runs as well. Dalton Sharpe earned the victory on the mound. He pitched 4 + innings and allowed 1 run, 0 earned on 4 hits, 0 walks, 1 hit batter and had 5 strikeouts. Clay Ridgeway closed out the game with 3 innings pitched. He allowed 3 earned runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and had 1 strikeout. Bishop led off the game with a single to left field and moved to second base on a single from Brady Furniss. Maddux Dixon laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up into scoring position. Mac Mellichamp had an RBI groundout to second to make the score 1-0 after 1 complete inning. Ridgeway led off the bottom of the second inning with a double to right center field. Thorn Tucker drove him in with a double to the fence in deep left. Edwards Graham followed with a walk and Cason Newman sacrifice bunted the runners into scoring position. Bishop cleared the bases with a laser beam triple to right center. Furniss then made it 5-0 with a single to center to score Bishop. York scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 5-1. In the bottom of the 5th inning the Dogs tacked on 2 more runs as Mellichamp singled to right field to lead off the inning. Matthew Lounsbery was the courtesy runner for Mellichamp. Sharpe followed with a line drive single to left field. Ridgeway reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed Lounsbery to score. Newman later had a 2 out double to drive in Sharpe to make it 7-1. York would tack on 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning and added one more in the top of the 7th inning to make the final score 7-4.
Once again the Bulldog bats were hot as the hosts hammered out 12 hits. As mentioned Bishop had 3 hits, Ridgeway, Furniss and Sharpe each had 2. Mellichamp, Tucker and Newman had one each. Bishop capped off an unbelievable week of baseball where he was 7-9 in the 3 games played. He had 3 Home Runs, a Triple, a Double, 2 Singles, 2 walks, and a hit by pitch. He also scored 9 runs, stole 4 bases and had 11 RBI’s in the 3 playoff victories.
Camden now advances to the Quarterfinals in a best 2 out of 3 series vs. AC Flora. The first game of the series will be Wednesday, May 13th at AC Flora at 7:00. Maddux Dixon is the expected starter. Camden has now improved its overall record to 13-15 and has won 6 of its last 7 games. This also marks the 3rd year in a row that Camden has won a District Championship in the playoffs.
