Led by a first-place finish from senior Julia Keen, the Girls’ Cross Country team finished second in a five-team meet hosted by Lugoff-Elgin High School. The Lady Bulldogs ran hard to finish behind a strong Pelion team with a score of 41. Pelion had the top score of the meet with a 36, followed by Camden (41), Westwood (69), Lugoff-Elgin (73), and Lakewood (155). Finally catching a break from the heat and humidity, Julia Keen ran Lugoff-Elgin’s newly completed home course with a season’s best time of 22:28. Senior Heather Woolard also saw her season’s best time, completing the course with a time of 24:01, coming in second for the Lady Bulldogs. She was followed to the finish line by teammates Mell Boucher (24:40), Megan Goodrich (25:06), and Mary Blanks (26:18). Along with Keen and Woolard, Goodrich and Shikuro Messinides (28:32) saw their season’s fastest times on the LE course. Mary Blanks (26:18), Elizabeth West (31:46), and Elizabeth Rousseau (32:55) reached their personal-best cross country times on Tuesday evening. The Girls’ XC Team will travel to Lugoff-Elgin again on Tuesday, October 10th, to compete in their next meet. Best of luck to Mark Chickering’s Lady Bulldogs as they go against LE one more time!
