Met by cooler temperatures and a slight breeze, the Camden Boys’ Cross Country team ran to a second-place finish on Tuesday evening in a six-team meet hosted by Lugoff-Elgin High School. Camden’s top seven runners all came in under 20 minutes to finish slightly behind Pelion (31) with a score of 40. Rounding out the field of competitors was Richland Northeast (95), Lugoff-Elgin (98), Westwood (98), and Lakewood (161). Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior Garrett Lawson, finishing third overall in a time of 17:51. Following Lawson for Camden were Sam Messinides (17:58, 4th place overall), Ben Battiata (18:56, 10th place overall), Grant Maree (18:59, 11th place overall), and KP Cassidy (19:02, 12th place overall). Jacob Hann (19:32) and Ryan Robles (19:55) completed the top seven for Camden, all completing the new LE course in less than 20 minutes. Seeing their season’s fastest times were Messinides, Battiata, Cassidy, and Robles. The following members of Jerry Stokes’ squad reached their all-time personal best cross country times at Tuesday’s meet: Alex Boyce (21:02), Caden Ralph (22:47), Caleb Cahn (23:49), Carter Baytes (24:31), Josh Parker (24:01), Wren Joseph (24:14), Nathan Flanders (25:41), Tanner Willson (25:39), and Bo Norred (27:50). The Bulldogs will return to the course on Tuesday, October 10th, to once again run at a meet hosted by Lugoff-Elgin High School.
