Multiple Teams · Allen Helps Dogs Advance in Playoffs

Gus Allen led the Varsity Baseball team to an 11-4 victory on Saturday at American Legion Field.  Allen pitched a complete game on a steamy Saturday.  He allowed 4 runs, with only one of them being earned.  He also helped himself out by going 2-2 at the plate and adding a walk with his other at bat.  On the mound, Allen went the distance and allowed 4 runs, only 1 earned.  He struck out 2, walked 5, hit one batter and gave up 4 hits.

The second inning proved to be the pivotal inning for the Bulldogs.  They scored 7 times in that inning.  Tyler Maxwell led off the inning with a single and stole second base.  Allen followed him with a single to put runners on the corners.  Ryland Ayers was the courtesy runner for Allen and promptly stole second base to put runners at second and third.  Brady White then had a 2 RBI single.  Parker David was the courtesy runner for White and stole second base also.  David would score on an errant throw from the first baseman on a bunt for a hit by Campbell Jordan.  John Bailey had an RBI double to score Jordan.  Nick Butler had an RBI double as well to score Bailey.  Lindsay Pierce added a single and Devin Beckley walked to load the bases with still nobody out.  Maxwell had another single in the inning – this time to drive in 2 runs and make the score 7-0.  In the top of the fourth inning Clinton made things interesting by scoring 4 runs.  The Bulldogs made 3 errors in the inning to help their cause, but Allen settled down after that and did not allow any more hits the rest of the game.  The Dogs answered right back in the bottom of the fourth with 4 runs of their own.  Beckley led off with a single and moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt.  He got to third base on a the throw to first from a ground ball to the third baseman.  Maxwell followed with his third hit of the game and drove in Beckley.  Maxwell stole 2B and then Allen had a single for his second hit of the game.  Ayers ran for Allen again.  Brady White followed with a single to drive in Maxwell and send Ayers to third.  Ayers scored on a ground ball to second from Jordan.  After Jordan stole second base, Bailey had a sacrifice line out to right field to score David who was running for White and finish out the scoring for the Dogs.

The win puts the Dogs at 13 and 13 overall and advances the Dogs to the District IV finals at Powdersville on Monday at 5:00.  The Dogs will have to defeat Powdersville twice on Monday to keep playing this season.  Devin Beckley is scheduled to start on Monday.
